Heat blast coming

Switzerland is bracing for another blast of extreme heat, with temperatures set to reach 38°C by tomorrow and stay high well into August.

MeteoSwiss says the whole country is under a level 4 drought alert, and forecasters see no significant rainfall before mid-August.

Level 5 wildfire warnings are now in force across parts of Valais and central Switzerland, with fire bans in every canton.

Rivers, lakes and dams are already at their lowest level in two decades, and the drought is expected to persist into autumn.
