Vaud and Valais have called off their heatwave alerts as thunderstorms move in and temperatures drop.
The Valais alert was lifted at 8am yesterday and Vaud's plan ended yesterday afternoon.
Storms are forecast today, keeping peak temperatures well below the extremes of recent days.
Both cantons stress that heat effects can strike later — especially in older people and those living alone — and urge residents to keep hydrating and watch for unusual symptoms.
A return to more typical summer temperatures is expected from the start of next week.
