Greens question planned CERN accelerator

Planned FCC route

The Geneva Green party is questioning plans by CERN to build a new accelerator three times the size of the current LHC.

Feasibility studies are now being carried out for the Future Circular Collider. The Greens say it will be the most energy consuming machine on the planet.

It would likely use more power than the whole canton, with an annual consumption of 4 Terawatt hours.

CERN says the idea is still in its early phase and no decisions have been made.
