Women are not required to undergo military service, like men. Although they are entitled to join the army if they wish.
But the government wants to compel women to go to an information day about the armed services.
It’s hoped many will choose to sign up after.
Before it can become law, it will need to be voted on by parliament and as it will require a change in the constitution – the people will have to vote.
That’s unlikely to happen before 2027.
