Govt needs new jet

The government needs to buy a new private jet.

That’s the view of a parliamentarian from Schaffhausen after a series of breakdowns has led to stranded Federal Councilors and missed meetings.

Over the summer, Simonetta Sommaruga was stuck in London after a meeting of environmental ministers. The plane had to be repaired in the UK.

Later, the president Guy Parmelin was flying to Japan for a meeting with the emperor and the opening of the Olympic Games. The plane had to turn back after it developed a problem and he then had to take a scheduled flight, meaning he missed the meeting with the emperor.

And only a few weeks ago, the Foreign Minister, Ignazio Cassis missed a meeting with his Chinese counterpart after the plane had to return to Switzerland after a stop-over in Russia.

The army, which runs the Falcon 900, says there have been seven problems in the last five years and safety was never in doubt.
