Later, the president Guy Parmelin was flying to Japan for a meeting with the emperor and the opening of the Olympic Games. The plane had to turn back after it developed a problem and he then had to take a scheduled flight, meaning he missed the meeting with the emperor.
And only a few weeks ago, the Foreign Minister, Ignazio Cassis missed a meeting with his Chinese counterpart after the plane had to return to Switzerland after a stop-over in Russia.
The army, which runs the Falcon 900, says there have been seven problems in the last five years and safety was never in doubt.
