Govt campaign to prevent refugee exploitation

The government has launched an information campaign to make sure Ukrainian refugees arriving in the country stay safe from exploitation.

The State Secretariat for Migration says there could be ‘malicious’ individuals hoping to exploit the weaknesses of those fleeing their homes. Most refugees arriving in the country are women and children.

The government has published its advice on the internet in all the national languages as well as in English, Russian and Ukrainian.

It warns of overly generous work opportunities, never handover travel documents to anyone other than authorities, have a list of contacts of trusted people separately and not just on your phone and before getting into any vehicle, take a picture of the licence plates and send it to friends.

Don’t get into the car if the driver says you can’t take pictures.

The migration office says any new arrival in the country should contact the authorities for help without hesitation.
