Geneva voters to decide maternity leave

Geneva voters will get the opportunity to decide on the length of maternity leave.

An initiative by the Green Liberal party has been successful. It’s calling on sixteen weeks for new mothers and eight for the other parent. Two weeks could be transferred between the couple.

Voters on a national level have already agreed a two-week paternity leave period.

If successful, it would make Geneva one of the most generous cantons for parental leave.

No date has been set for the vote.
