Canton Geneva has published its budget for 2025 – and for the first time since 2015, the canton doesn’t expect a deficit for the coming year.
In fact, there should be a small surplus of just over 4 million francs.
The canton finds itself in the fortunate situation after showing an unexpected surplus of over a billion francs due to higher tax income.
The State Councillor, Antonio Hodgers, admits they have been a ‘little blessed by the gods’.
The budget also means the canton can cut its deficit and will also be able to handle possible tax cuts if passed by voters later this month.
