The Geneva Grand Council was ready to pass a motion that would have made wearing the burkini illegal in the canton’s swimming pool.
But it was stopped by the State Council.
Carole-Anne Kast, who’s head of the Department of Institutions says the idea is a ‘blatant violation of women's rights’. The Green party says it’s a ‘sexist and xenophobic bill’.
The State Council refused to allow further debate and so a third vote.
