Geneva looks at ways to bring down health costs

Canton Geneva is exploring ways to bring down the cost of health insurance.

It suggests a plan could cut rates by 20%, but it admits it would be complicated. 

It would involve the creation of a health network linking hospitals with home care and changing the way doctors are paid; per patient and not based on treatment. 

A new IT network would be required to link all services more efficiently.

The State Councillor for health, Pierre Maudet, says something must be done as the cost of health is becoming increasingly unbearable.
