Geneva budget plan unveiled

Geneva has now put figures to its austerity plan — a CHF 546 million deficit for 2027, even after CHF 247 million in cuts

Finance Councillor Nathalie Fontanet called the shortfall structural on Thursday.

The government has adopted 23 of the 58 short-term savings measures proposed in the Zuin report, plus 13 with modifications.

Cantonal top-up pensions will be aligned with the Swiss average, university fees with the Romandy average, and socio-cultural programmes handed to the communes.

Charges are still climbing 3.7% next year to CHF 11.6 billion.

Big pushback from unions and the left is expected.
