G7 summit opens today

The G7 summit opens today in Evian, just across Lake Geneva, with Emmanuel Macron welcoming Donald Trump and other world leaders at the Hôtel Royal.

Trump is expected to arrive around five in the afternoon, after most leaders fly in via Geneva Airport.

France has deployed nearly 16,000 police and soldiers around the summit perimeter, with Switzerland providing up to 4,000 troops to support its own forces.

The three-day summit runs until Wednesday, with the war in Ukraine and the new US-Iran peace deal expected to dominate discussions.

Cross-border traffic between Geneva and Haute-Savoie may face further disruption throughout the week.
