French summit amidst ongoing protest violence

Mayors across Haute-Savoie led public gatherings today in response to Saturday's protest violence that left eleven Annemasse shops looted

In Annemasse itself, around 200 people joined the mayor outside the town hall, where he thanked emergency services and the crowd closed with the Marseillaise.

Similar rallies drew residents in Annecy, Thonon, Cluses and Bonneville, with elected officials calling the attacks criminal and warning that no commune can assume it will be spared next.

Many frontaliers from these towns cross daily into Geneva, and local leaders say the goal now is to steady shaken public confidence.
