France strengthens certificate use

In neighbouring France, more people will have to show a vaccine certificate from today to access some leisure activities.

While a certificate was already needed for cinemas and sporting events – more venues will demand a pass for access from today, such as gyms.

By next month, it will be difficult to do many more things in France without it. Such as going to a bar or restaurant or even a shopping centre.

A bill currently before the French parliament is likely to extend the use of the certificate as well as make it compulsory for care workers to be vaccinated and enforce isolation for anyone who tests positive.

France is battling increasing infections with a rise of 150% in the past week. Many with the delta variant.

The strong French move is being credited for a rise in people seeking vaccinations in Geneva.
