Swiss tennis legend Roger Federer has joined the ranks of billionaire athletes, according to Forbes magazine.

With career prize money amounting to roughly CHF 1.31 bn, Federer has already earned more than most athletes.

But his fortune was boosted significantly by major sponsorship deals and his stake in the Swiss sportswear brand 'On'.

Forbes magazine reported Monday that Federer’s wealth now exceeds one billion dollars.

He joins a select group of athletes who have crossed the billion mark, including basketball star LeBron James, golfer Tiger Woods, and footballers Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.
