A candidate for the Swiss People’s Party in canton Basel-Country is finding she has a formidable opponent – her grandmother.
29-year-old Sarah Regez is a candidate for the right-wing party, but her grandmother has issued a pamphlet calling on voters not to vote for her.
The grandmother was a long time Social Democrat representative on a local council.
She says she’s horrified at the political position her granddaughter has taken.
Despite their political differences, the grandmother told the Basler Zeitung they have a good personal relationship.
Regez refused to comment, except to say her private life is separate from her political life.
