Drink driving up

More people are drink driving – and having accidents.

The motoring organisation, the TCS, has examined official federal numbers and notes there were 19% more accidents involving alcohol in 2022 than there were in 2021.

Many of those accidents were serious, involving injuries or death. The number has been steadily increasing since 2016 – although there was a dip during the pandemic.

The worst canton for drink driving is Geneva, which has held the questionable record for 6 years.

Canton Vaud had the most fatal accidents involving alcohol in 2022 – six people died.

The TCS is urging everyone who’s had anything to drink to take public transport or a taxi.
