France is being rocked by another sexual abuse scandal, this time not far from the Geneva border in Bonneville.
A 61-year-old man worked in the town as a gynaecologist – he’s being accused of rape by 20 women between the years of 2009 and 2015.
The different women’s accounts are similar – they’re told to lie in the fetal position to treat a retroverted uterus. Then they all describe a similar, but disturbing experience, of an unnecessary penetration.
Prosecutors say the man deliberately targeted vulnerable victims – one is said to have been a minor.
The man denies all the charges. The trial is currently underway in Annecy.
The case follows recent high-profile cases in France, such as Gisèle Pelicot who was drugged by her then husband who allowed his friends to rape her and Joël LeScourarnec who admitted to 299 cases of child abuse over 25 years.
