Voters will go to the polls on 14 June 2026 to decide on an initiative to cap the population at ten million.
The proposal has enough signatures for a nationwide referendum and is backed by the Swiss People’s Party.
The federal council and parliament are urging rejection of the initiative as they fear it will threaten the relationship with the European Union on the free movement of people agreement.
