Switzerland’s top court has confirmed the result of last year’s vote on electronic identity, rejecting a series of legal challenges.
The Federal Supreme Court ruled yesterday the appeals seeking to overturn the narrow approval of the e-ID were inadmissible because they were filed too late.
The case centred on financial support from Swisscom, which had contributed CHF 30,000 to the campaign backing the e-ID.
Opponents argued this breached the state’s duty of neutrality, given Swisscom’s public ownership.
The judgment effectively closes the legal challenge, confirming the introduction of the electronic identity system.
