A couple in Sankt Gallen are facing jail and demands to pay back the canton for fraudulently claiming more than half a million francs in disability payments.
The man has claimed for than 10 years that he can’t see, is constantly dizzy and has chronic back pain.
But they lived the high-life with a big house, two cars, a boat and regular vacations.
Although the wife worked, their standard of living raised suspicions and so they were investigated.
The man was spotted walking unaided, not using his cane and even driving a car. He also went hiking and attended music festivals.
The trial is now underway. Prosecutors are demanding more than three years in jail each and they will have to pay back more than CHF 250,000 each.
The couple are now separated.
