A national parliamentarian is suggesting that wealthy prisoners should be forced to pay for their incarceration.
The Geneva Citizen’s Movement MP, Daniel Sormanni, says its unfair that the rich get subsidized by the state, while honest citizens must support themselves.
He suggests anyone with an income of more than CHF 150,000 a year should pay towards the cost of their prison term and should have their own health insurance.
It costs around CHF 10,000 a month to house a prisoner.
