Call for urgent help for Geneva homeless

Geneva is in the middle of a homeless crisis – that’s the view of the cantonal councillor Thierry Apothéloz who heads the Social Cohesion Department.

He says it's unacceptable that around 200 people have lost their winter shelter since the beginning of the month – just when a new cold spell hit the region.

He’s asking for an extra CHF 4m to fund the shelters all year - and not just for the winter months.

He hopes the canton will allow the emergency funding later this week – but it may not be easy to reopen the shelters as the staff have also now been let go.
