But commentators say the team showed it can stand up against a major club and the return leg at the Stade de Genève will be a true nail-biter.
The Geneva team is being described as ‘brave’ by the local press as the large Scottish crowd booed while Servette player Chris Bedia scored a penalty in the 43rd minute.
Rangers will be in Geneva on Tuesday. The game is already sold out.
