A heated dispute is unfolding in Basel over parking fees.
Since the start of the year, the price now depends on the length of their car, leading to increases of up to 80 percent - and up to 160 percent by 2027.
The largest vehicles, over 4.9 meters long, face annual charges of over 1000 francs.
The Touring Club Switzerland has filed a petition calling the new fees excessive and unfair, pointing out that motorcycles park for free.
The cantonal parliament’s petitions committee acknowledged public frustration but noted that the pricing policy reflects the will of voters.
The government now has a year to respond.
