The recent heavy rain means the avalanche danger in many areas is now at an extremely high level.

The Snow and Avalanche Research Institute says there’s weak patches in the snow pack, especially above 2,200 meters.

The main dangers are around canton Valais, but also central areas of the country are listed as a serious risk.

In addition, there are flood warnings along some rivers. In the eastern parts the Thur and Sitter rivers have already broken their banks, and there are alerts along the lower Aare and the Rhine.
