The invasive tiger mosquito is continuing to spread around the Lake Geneva region.
The mosquito is originally from East Asia, but has been gaining ground in Europe for many years. It's thought it’s being helped by the increasingly mild winters caused by climate change.
It was first spotted in Ticino in 2003 and was first seen around Geneva and Valais in 2019.
Studies by the Léman Council shows it’s now in Nyon and Cully in Vaud and Brig in Valais.
In France it’s now been spotted in the neighbouring départments of Ain and Haute-Savoie.
Officials advise to try to remove puddles where they breed at this time of year and keep gutters clear.
Possibly counter-intuitively, don’t use pesticides as those are more likely to kill predators.
