Yesterday’s swim in Lake Geneva – which was due to attract over a thousand swimmers – had to be cancelled due to a sudden drop in water temperature.
The Lake Crossing event is billed as ‘sporting and friendly’ and swimmers start at Genève Plage and swim to Bains des Paquis – a distance of almost 2km.
But the water temperature has plummeted to 15 and a half degrees – it’s considered dangerous below 18.
Organisers hope the event can be rescheduled for next week.
