Temporary town of 40,000 built in the Alps

BuLa 2022 - Federal Scout Camp

A temporary town of 40,000 is being set up in the Alps. It’s known as the BuLa and it’s a gathering of scouts from across the country and some other countries across Europe.

The Federal Scout Camp in Goms in canton Valais only takes place every 14 years and will last for two weeks from July 23rd.

The camp site covers an area of 170 football pitches and it will take a fleet of 600 trucks to supply the area with food and water. It’s estimated the camp will eat 5 tonnes of bread every morning.

Migros is constructing a 3,400 m2 temporary supermarket in the mountains – and other retailers are also setting up shop.

Some farmers were worried the influx would damage the fields and strain the local water supply, but organisers say they have managed to calm their fears.
