Syphilis cases climb in Switzerland

Switzerland is not immune to the global increase of cases of Syphilis.

The disease was once thought to be close to eradication – but cases worldwide are climbing, and experts are unsure why. 

Some countries are seeing increases of several hundred percent. Here, the Federal Health Office says ten years ago there were 616 cases – now there’s over a thousand.

Doctors say it’s important to get treated early. It can be cured with antibiotics – but if left, it can cause serious problems later on, including organ damage.
