Switzerland has been invited to join EU foreign and defence ministers at an informal summit in May.
The invitation was extended on the side-lines of the World Economic Forum’s meeting in Davos.
The foreign minister Ignazio Cassis was asked to join the meeting by his Swedish counterpart. Sweden currently holds the EU presidency.
Cassis says it’s a first and a golden opportunity.
Switzerland is due to hold further talks next week with the EU regarding the stalled framework agreement. It’s hoped agreement can be reached before the next federal elections in October this year.
