Switzerland gives CHF 5.5m to Ukraine schools

Switzerland is giving an extra CHF 5.5m to help renovate Ukrainian schools. The government has already approved a CHF 140m aid package to Ukraine.

The foreign ministry says it wants Ukrainian children to have access to ‘decent and safe’ education.

It goes on to say that the Russian military aggression has dealt a severe blow to Ukraine’s education sector.

Only a few days ago, the Russian ambassador told the press that it was out of the question that Switzerland could play a role in mediating an end to the conflict. Sergei Garmonin said the country has lost its reputation for neutrality after it joined the EU in applying sanctions.
