Although Switzerland is performing badly in the world ranking of vaccinations – it is creeping up and two cantons have now reached the 70% rate and others are getting closer.
Basel City has 70.2% jabbed and Ticino is at 70.1%.
Neuchatel and Zurich are only slightly off the 70% mark.
Nationally, the rate stands at 67%. For comparison, Portugal is at 89%, Spain 81%, and Germany and Austria are at 70%.
The Federal Health Office says the Omicron variant now accounts for around 15% of all cases and that’s expected to double every 2 to 3 days. At a press conference yesterday, the office says this country has one of the highest infection rates in Europe.
