Last week’s heavy snowfall in Valais has caused considerable damage – and the clear up is still underway.
The main roads are now open, but many smaller roads remain closed or are damaged.
Authorities warn it will be a while before they’re able to clear hiking routes.
The snow also felled trees, meaning they can’t be used for lumber. It’s estimated up to 4,000 m3 of wood has been lost. It can only be used for biomass.
Experts say sudden heavy snow falls are likely to become more common due to climate change.
