Going to the hospital is risky in itself. A new survey shows 6% of those admitted pick up an infection while there.
The figures relating to last year have been put together by the Federal Health Office.
The rate is in line with the European average for hospital infections.
It’s most likely someone will pick up an infection after an operation. A third of hospital born infections will need further anti-biotic treatments.
The health office says more needs to be done to keep the figures down – including further staff training and better processes.
