Popular summer season for swimming

Swimming pools across French-speaking Switzerland have recorded unprecedented visitor numbers this summer, driven by four separate heatwaves

Lausanne has already logged 200,000 entries, Fribourg 150,000, Geneva 130,000, with Neuchâtel and Sion approaching 100,000 each.

Bellerive in Lausanne saw more than 10,000 people in a single day, and several pools had to temporarily cap admissions when they hit capacity.

But more swimmers has also meant more costs — extra lifeguards, water treatment and top-ups — so the impact on operators' finances remains unclear. Most pools stay open until mid-September.
