Popular Geneva festival now underway

Geneva's La Bâtie festival opened its 50th edition yesterday with three weeks of theatre, dance, circus and music across venues around the city

New director Stéphane Malfettes, a Lyon native who took over last year, is launching a temporary hub called Le Béaba in the grounds of the Ariana Museum on the right bank.

Highlights include an eight-hour piano recital of minimalist music at the museum, aerial performances by Amanda Homa, and a live audiovisual show tied to the film Sirât at the Alhambra.

Running until 13 September, La Bâtie has helped shape Geneva's cultural scene since 1976 — this year it wants to reach wider audiences with more free events.
