Party wants Switzerland to leave Paris treaty

The right-wing Swiss People’s Party says it wants Switzerland to withdraw from the Paris Climate Agreement.

It feels its position has been strengthened after voters rejected the Initiative on Environmental Responsibility on Sunday.
Withdrawing from the agreement was one of the first actions of US president, Donald Trump.

The party issued a statement after the result was announced, saying it was a clear verdict from the people. They called the proposal a ‘destruction of Swiss prosperity.’

It’s now demanding Bern withdraw from the international agreement that commits Switzerland to reducing its greenhouse gasses.
