The Swiss People’s Party’s effort to stop Basel hosting the Eurovision song contest is going badly.
Party workers are struggling to find 2,000 people to sign a petition to stop the canton offering a CHF 35m loan to organisers.
One of the signature collectors, Samuel Kullman, told the 20 minutes newspaper that it’s proving to be one of the most difficult campaigns ever - but he remains confident they’ll get enough signatures within the next nine days – which is the deadline – to force the issue to a vote.
But given the struggle to get the signatures, many doubt it will be successful.
