No hope of change in restrictions this month

There’s no chance of any easing of the restrictions before the end of this month. That’s the message from yesterday’s government press conference in Bern.

The Federal Council, says there’s a pandemic within a pandemic going on – referring to the spread of the new more contagious variants.

While the number of people falling ill and hospitalizations are going down, infections are going up. 10 cantons now have an R number above 1, according to the Federal Office of Public Health.

The Health Minister Alain Berset says the government doesn’t want to make promises it can’t keep and says it’s too early to make a decision.

The Federal Council says it will discuss if there’s a way out of the restrictions in a couple of weeks.
