A new born baby has been reunited with his parents after being taken from the maternity unit at the Lucerne Cantonal Hospital early on Monday morning.

A 20-year-old woman posed as a nurse and took the three-day old child. A relative of the woman says she had recently suffered a miscarriage.

The relative says she was called by the woman who told her ‘The baby had been born’. When she went to the woman’s apartment, she says the baby was clearly suffering from hypothermia and wasn’t moving.

Before she could call the police – they arrived with paramedics and the baby was taken into care.

Police say the baby is now doing fine and the parents were supported throughout their ordeal.

The hospital now has a guard on the maternity section.
