The right-wing Geneva Citizen’s Movement is launching an initiative to ban cross border workers from senior positions within the cantonal administration.
It’s not the first time the party has tried to limit working rights for those resident outside the canton – but the courts slapped it down, saying it was illegal and went against freedom of movement laws.
This time the initiative will be worded so it should comply with the law.
The MCG State Councillor, Mauro Poggia, says they’re using case law from the European Court of Justice to justify their position.
4,000 signatures will be needed to force it to a vote.
