Mystery of Merkel and her Coop bag

The former German Chancellor Angela Merkel is causing a stir in some sections of the Swiss press as she’s been photographed shopping with a Swiss Coop bag in Berlin.

The Christmas edition of the bag features a snowman.

Merkel clearly believes in the bag for life idea. Coop have identified it as one issued in 2017 – and it was available all over the country.

But where did she get it? Sleuths suggest it may have been a shop in the Engadine where she has gone cross-country skiing in the past.

Merkel has been in the news for other reasons this week. The former chancellor is known for doing all her own shopping, even when she was Europe’s most powerful politician.

On one trip last week she was pickpocketed and someone got away with her wallet. She continues to have bodyguards – her security detail have some questions to answer.
