More killed in Valais this year than the whole of 2025

Valais has already lost more people to accidents this year than in the whole of 2025 — 77 lives by mid-July, against 69 last year.

Eight hikers have died in barely two weeks, most of them foreign tourists in the Zermatt, Randa and Saas-Grund areas.

Guides continue to urge climbers to stay off the Matterhorn as the summer heat destabilises the terrain.

Three more people have died paragliding or wingsuit flying since January, and seven have been killed on Valais roads.

The numbers include the victims of the nightclub fire on New Year's Day.
