Montreux rock legend honoured

Montreux turned into a giant Freddie Mercury tribute this weekend, as the town marked what would have been the Queen singer's 80th birthday last Friday

The Freddie Days festival on Saturday included free concerts, exhibitions and performances across the lakeside town Mercury adopted as his refuge from the late 1970s.

He bought Mountain Studios with Queen in 1979, recorded there until his death in 1991, and his statue still watches over the quays.

For fans and casual visitors, it was a rare chance to celebrate the icon in the town that gave him his last home.
