The Environment Minister Albert Rösti says the current heatwave is a clear sign of climate change, calling it a major risk to people and the environment.
Speaking on Swiss radio SRF, he stressed the need for more green spaces in cities and greater adaptation measures at cantonal and municipal level.
He added that while not every extreme weather event should be seen as a climate crisis, this heatwave clearly illustrates wider climate trends.
Rösti also reaffirmed support for renewable energy, while keeping nuclear power on the table to ensure electricity supply.
