A Spanish man who lives in Switzerland has been arrested in his home country as he was driving with the corpse of his Swiss partner.

The 66-year-old man tried to cross the border from Spain into France, but when he spotted a French border control, he turned and then drove the wrong way on the autoroute back into Spain.

When stopped, the police had a shock as under a blanket was the body of his 88-year-old partner, in a serious state of decay.

Reports say the police are not treating the incident as homicide and believe the man just wanted to return to Switzerland with the body.
