The Geneva based International Committee of the Red Cross will be given nearly 4 kilos of gold that was found on a train running between Sankt Gallen and Lucerne 4 years ago.
The gold is worth around CHF 200,000.
The ingots were in a package marked, in German, with the words ‘IKRK Wertsendung’ or ICRC Registered Delivery.
The Lucerne Prosecutor’s Office says despite intensive investigations over the last few years – it’s been impossible to trace the owner of the gold – or find any evidence of a link to a crime.
As it seems it was destined for the ICRC, it will be handed over.
A spokesman for the ICRC says it welcomes the donation and is reassured about the origin following the police investigation.
