Hopes Omicron has peaked - but fears over Delta

There are hopes the Covid infection rate has peaked. The former Basel cantonal doctor, Thomas Steffen, says the current wave is decreasing – but he still says we should be cautious.

The number of people being treated for Covid in intensive care units in hospital is also down with the hospitals in Zurich, Bern and Lucerne all reporting fewer patients. 

While the Omicron wave may be weakening – epidemiologists say the more serious Delta variant is still out there and is still infecting people.

It’s thought around 1,000 of the 27,000 new infections reported yesterday could be Delta.
