Geneva may have missed out on the Eurovision Song Contest next year – but 2025 will mean the city will be at the Epicentre of sport.
The most important sporting event next year will be the Women’s Euro Football Tournament, hosted by Switzerland.
Geneva will have 5 matches, including a quarter-final and a semi-final.
It’s expected 100,000 fans from all over Europe will come to Geneva.
In addition to the actual tournament, the canton is determined to take full advantage of the interest that will be generated.
It’s hoped the competition will boost all women’s sport. The Geneva Sports Association says it wants to have 40% of people on committees to be women. Currently it's about 27%.
There’ll also be fan zones and sports villages.
The Stade de Genève is getting a 4-million-franc facelift – including a renovation of the much-maligned refreshment stands.
The Swiss team will play its third group match in Geneva – it’s expected to be a sellout.
